Hudson River Trading’s BIPOC Tech Summit
Hudson River Trading is proud to host our first-ever BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People Of Color) Tech Summit: a virtual platform for BIPOC undergraduate, graduate, and experienced engineering talent to learn, talk, and network around tech in the quantitative finance industry! Attendees will get an inside look at what it’s like to work in the world of automated trading, and have the opportunity to learn about the interesting technical problems we tackle on a daily basis. Join us for talks, panels, and networking sessions hosted by HRT engineers covering a wide scope of topics, including artificial intelligence in trading, demystifying decentralized finance, asynchronous programming, a “how to” guide on running a private cloud, and much more!

F.A.Q.
I don’t identify as BIPOC, may I register?
This summit is meant to create a space for the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color tech community and its allies. People of all identities are welcome, but we expect everyone to respect the space we are creating for BIPOC tech talent and are excited for the opportunity to learn from and share with each other.
What background knowledge is required to register?
We have no strict background requirement, and encourage folks with an interest in technology and quantitative trading to register. No previous experience in finance is required.
Is it OK if I cannot attend the full day?
Yes! You may attend as few or as many sessions as you like.

Algo Track: Arbitrage 101
Learn the basics of arbitrage as well as some relevant trading background.
Engineering Track: Gotta Go Fast: Trading Quickly and Safely with FPGAs
When the rate of real-time data reached the boundary of software processing, HRT called for hardware as a solution. Learn why this is important, and how we use FPGAs to trade quickly, safely, and smartly.
Infrastructure/Trading Tech Track: Asynchronous Programming
Learn the history of asynchronous programming, how to apply it, and how the Python language supports it.

Algo Track: High Frequency Trading 101
An automated trading system makes investment decisions, sends instructions to exchanges, and has profit (or loss) at the end of the day, all without human intervention. In this talk, you’ll learn how a computer could make investment decisions – and pick up some useful industry jargon along the way.
Engineering Track: Engineering for Low Latency
An introduction to the concept of low latency in algorithmic trading and how it guides the way in which we engineer our code.
Infrastructure/Trading Tech Track: Timekeeping In a Blazing Fast Industry
In the trading world, having your time off by seconds can be a huge problem. In this talk, we will go over all of the hardware and software that goes into the accurate timekeeping that is required to support trading at the speed of light.
